Portfolio

This is a portfolio of Christina 'Demi'urge' Rodriguez. From poetry to fiction, music to photography, she is a slave to her mind's tongue. Her words are the simple, complicated reactions to the urge to create a platform for her emotions, thoughts, and obligation to create with words.

Since the age of thirteen, when she first picked up a pen and was told to "write what you feel", she has taken every chance she can get to spit out all the language of her mind. From writing on scraps of paper, to writing in endless notebooks hidden under school books, to writing online and on mobile phones, she has been an addict for the word for eleven years so far. She has been published in QueensZine, a handful of stones, Daily Love, amphibi.us, High Coup Journal, Train Write, Short, Fast, and Deadly, 50 to 1, fri haiku, rust+moth, and Yes, Poetry. She is currently working on her first chapbook.

She started with creating music at the age of eighteen, fooling around with various software and equipment while learning the craft of music production at school. Though not her niche, she happily can say at least she had a chance to make a little bit of music, even if it hurts your ears! She received her Associates of Applied Science in Music Electronic Technology in January 2008. She currently works with Nuve Music, as a lyricist, webmaster, and adviser.

Photography has been a constant interest of hers, first fooling around with cameras at the age of fifteen. Her snapshots are simple, like her outlook of the world around her, but sometimes it's the simplicity that captures the perfect shot. She enjoys the art of photo manipulation and dabbles into design once in a while.

Her latest venture is journalism. Her specialization is in arts journalism, particularly in music and creative writing. She has been a reporter for NYCityWatch.org and the Queensborough Communique. She has been a blogger for NYCityBeat and runs her own blog,  The Write Queen. She co-owns a food blog called "Sex In Your Mouth" with fellow journalist Elizabeth Ramanand. She aspires to write articles about the craft of writing as well as opinions on the state of poetry and other art forms. She also aspires to start a small media company which specializes in helping people in the arts create and maintain media for their ventures. She obtained her Bachelor of Arts in Journalism in June 2010.

She is a progress at work, constantly trying to do something new, stumbling along the way. But you can't deny that it's an enjoyable experience to be a part of her journey.

Please enjoy your tour of the portfolio!

QUOTES OF THE MOMENT

We write to taste life twice, in the moment and in retrospect.”
― Anaïs Nin

I was starting to wonder if I was ready to be a writer, not someone who won prizes, got published and was given the time and space to work, but someone who wrote as a course of life. Maybe writing wouldn’t have any rewards. Maybe the salvation I would gain through work would only be emotional and intellectual. Wouldn’t that be enough, to be a waitress who found an hour or two hidden in every day to write?
